Analysis of common problems of automobile brake pads

In the daily use and maintenance of vehicle brake pads, we find that some common problems always exist. The following is our answer to the questions of the owners.

1.Why does jitter occur during braking?

  (1) This is often caused by deformation of the brake pads or brake discs. It is related to the material, processing accuracy, and thermal deformation, including: the thickness of the brake disc, the roundness of the brake drum, uneven wear, thermal deformation, and hot spots.

  (2) The vibration frequency generated by the brake pads during braking is resonant with the suspension system.

  (3) The friction coefficient of brake pads is unstable and high.

2, the effect of the friction coefficient on braking?

Too high or low friction coefficient will affect the braking performance of the car. Especially when emergency braking is needed during high-speed driving of the car, the friction coefficient is too low, the brake will be insensitive; if the friction coefficient is too high, the phenomenon of locking will occur, causing the vehicle to tail, slip, and flip, posing a serious threat to driving safety.

  3. What is the relationship between the life of the brake pads and the hardness? What are the influencing factors?

  (1) There is no certain relationship between brake pad life and surface hardness. When the surface hardness is high, the actual contact area between the brake pad and the brake disc is small, which often affects the life more.

  (2) Factors affecting the life of the brake pads include hardness, strength, abrasion of friction materials, and so on.

4, the effect on the brake after wading?

When the wheel is immersed in water, a layer of water film is formed between the brake pads and the brake disc / drum, which reduces the friction and the water in the brake drum is not easy to escape.

For disc brakes, this kind of brake failure is better. Because the area of the brake pads of the disc brake system is very small, the outer periphery of the disc is all exposed to the outside, and water droplets cannot be retained. In this way, due to the centrifugal force when the wheel rotates, the water droplets on the disc will be automatically lost without affecting the function of the braking system.

For drum brakes, step on the brakes while walking away from the water, that is, press the accelerator with your right foot and the brake with your left foot. If you step on it a few times, the water droplets between the brake pads and the brake drum will be wiped off. At the same time, the heat generated by the friction dries it, so that the brakes quickly return to their original sensitivity.

The above is an analysis of common problems with automobile brake pads. I hope that everyone will be helpful after understanding the common problems of automobile brake pads
